The 9th Annual Ceremony to Commemorate the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Hilton Garden Inn -24 Liberty Drive in Cartersville, beginning at 7:00 PM. This event will coincide with events around the nation. The annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims gives us all the opportunity to remember those lost to homicide, and honor their memories. The purpose of this day of remembrance is to focus on the impact of murder on families and communities, and ways to support and serve survivors.

Kim McCoy, Director of the Victim Witness Unit for the District Attorney’s Office in Cobb County, will speak at this event. Gordon Central High School’s Jr. ROTC will present colors. A Ceremonial Candle Lighting and Remembrance Ceremony will honor 132 Murder victims from Bartow and Gordon counties. As each name is read, a candle will be lit in their memory. Family members in attendance will be presented a flower in their honor.

The Victim Assistance Unit is a division of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office that helps victims and families deal with the trauma and effects of crime on their lives. Victim advocates guide victims through the court process and assist with providing crisis intervention, referrals, and many other services.

This event is open to the public and all are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
