The Cass Colonels (3-4, 2-3) had not played a team like the Rome Wolves (5-2, 4-1) before Friday night’s contest at Cass High School, which saw the Colonels fall 42-7.
Rome had the combination of Knox Kadum and Tyrish Martin working early in the game as the two connected for two passing touchdowns. Jalynn Sykes had two rushing touchdowns, while Kadum and Xavier Roberts had one rushing touchdown apiece.
Cass’ Brett Gaddy had three interceptions in the first half and star running back Avery Maxwell was injured in the first half and did not return. Cass did get a touchdown when Gaddy connected with Ian Whittington from 33 yards out, to avoid the shutout. Nonetheless, Cass has hit a losing streak that has now reached three games after starting the season 3-1. The Colonels playoff chances were just 28 percent entering Friday night’s contest.
Cass will host Paulding County (3-4, 2-3) next week at Cass High School next Friday at 7:30.
