It was too little, too late for the Cass Colonels (1-1), who lost a nail biter to Sonoraville 28-25 Friday night.

Sonoraville turned the ball over three times in the contest including back-to-back times in the first quarter that were inside the Sonoraville 20, which only led to three Cass points. The Colonels scored 10 points off of turnovers in the game. Sonoraville scored on a 56-yard touchdown pass following a muffed punt return by the Colonels and stretched its lead to 14-3.

Cass, however came roaring back in the second quarter. Terry Bardin scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Brett Gaddy, following a Sonoraville turnover, which set Cass up on the opposition’s 10-yard line. Cass failed to convert a two-point conversion twice, but Avery Maxwell put the Colonels on top with a 21-yard touchdown run. Following the two-point conversion, Cass led 17-14 going into the half.

In the second half, however, the Cass offense haulted and allowed two touchdowns to give Sonoraville a 28-17 lead. With 1:08 left in the game, Cass’ Gaddy scored on a 2-yard quarterback keeper to pull within five. Following a 2-point converision, Cass’ second of the game, Cass attempted an onside kick, but was not successful and lost 28-25.

Cass will travel to Woodland (0-2) next week for an intra-county and region contest at 7:30. The game will be heard online via Bartow Sports Zone.
