The Cass Colonels (1-1) were unable to build off of the momentum of last week’s victory over Adairsville as Forsyth Central beat the Bartow County team 24-12.

Forsyth Central milked the clock in the first quarter and would grab an early 3-0 lead following a field goal. The question that will haunt Cass players and coaches for the next week is what would’ve happened had the following mistakes not occurred.

Cass fumbled a punt on its own 11-yard line, which allowed Forsyth Central quarterback Ryan Vanuum to score from 9 yards out. Another Cass error occurred when Forsyth Central picked off Rett Moore and would get the ball inside the Cass 5-yard line. Vanuum would again find the end zone following his 4-yard scamper. The first half would come to an end with Cass trailing 17-0.

Moore would get Cass on the board as he found Jaques Fountain from 22 yards out to cut into the lead 22-6, but in the fourth quarter, Forsyth Central would effectively put the game out of reach with a Devran Orson 4-yard touchdown run to put the Colonels behind 24-6.

Moore would score with 2:12 left in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard scamper, but it was too little, too late.

Cass drops to 1-1 on the season and will play region and county foe Woodland (2-0) next week. You can hear that game on bartowsportszone.com
