The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes picked up their first win of the 2020 campaign by defeating the Morrow Mustangs 42-0. The Canes scored all of their points in the first half.

On the game’s fourth play, new starting quarterback Stratton Tripp connect with Sam Phillips for a 51-yard touchdown pass and an early 7-0 lead. Cartersville would score again, but this time off the legs of Quante Jennings and his 25-yard touchdown run.

The Cartersville defense held strong all night long, but an interception by Brittan Allen took an early highlight as he caught a deflected pass and gave the Cartersville offense another scoring opportunity. The Canes then marched 33 yards down the field on a scoring drive that was capped on an 11-yard shovel pass from Tripp to Phillips, for their second touchdown connection of the evening.

Cartersville ended the first quarter with a 21-0 lead.

The Canes would go on to score 21 more points in the second half which included a 36-yard touchdown run from Jalen Thomas, a 48-yard run by Quante Jennings, and an exciting 85-yard reception by Devonte Ross on a screen.

The teams played with a running clock in the second half. Cartersville set the all-time record for most consecutive regular season wins, with Friday night’s victory.
