The Cartersville City Schools Board of Education met on Monday, January 11, 2021 for their regular session.
The Board recognized Mrs. Becky Bryant, assistant principal of Cartersville Elementary School, as the Matthew Hill-Dean HEARTS Employee of the Month. Mrs. Bryant loves engaging the students and is very organized while keeping the best interest of the students in mind. No matter the situation, Mrs. Bryant has an amazing ability to put a smile on her face and handle all situations with the utmost professionalism. She shows kindness and grace to everyone, and she always makes a personal connection within each interaction. One of her nominators said, “Becky brings a light and a feeling of happiness to everything in which she is involved. She is never too busy to give you her best. It’s easy to see that Mrs. Bryant truly cares about the well-being of everyone at CES!” Becky received a $50.00 gift card to Appalachian Grill and her name will be added to our perpetual plaque displayed at the Cartersville Board Office. During the Business Session, the January meeting of the Board of Education is also a time the Board elects its officers. Kelley Dial was re-elected Board President and Travis Popham was re-elected Vice President. Pat Broadnax was re-elected as Board Secretary.
The Board approved adoption of a Resolution to approve the Local Facilities Plan to provide facility guidance for the school system over the life of the plan in accordance with Georgia Board of Education Rule 160-5-4-01.
The Board approved to set on the table for public review and comment the System Calendar Committee’s proposed 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school year calendars.
The Board approved to waive Policy DJED and recommend Education Planners to conduct an Efficiency and Effectiveness Review in the amount of $10,000.

The April meeting is scheduled for the third Monday of the month due to Spring Break.

Policy Pat Broadnax, Chair Last Tuesday of each month

Curriculum Kathi White, Chair 4th Monday of each month
Building and Grounds Travis Popham, Chair Last Thursday of each month
**Committee meetings begin at 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted and are subject to cancellation in any given month.
The Board approved several annual resolutions including the continued appointment of Harry B. White, Attorney at law, as legal counsel to represent the School Board during 2021.
Several surplus items were also approved.
The Board approved the following recommendations from the Finance Committee:
-Budget Parameters for the FY2022 Budget.
-Budget Preparation and Millage Setting Calendar
The Board approved the following personnel recommendations for classified employment:
-Lori E. Morrow, School Nutrition Assistant, effective 1/12/2021.
-Cynthia R. Nunn, School Nutrition Assistant, effective 1/12/2021.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Cartersville School Board will be Monday, February 8, 2021 at 6:00 pm, at the Board of Education Office, 15 Nelson Street.
