The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (6-1, 2-0) routed the Hiram Hornets on Friday night 51-26 to earn their second region win of the year.

Cartersville led 21-9 after the first quarter and 37-12 at the half. Cartersville had two rushing touchdowns by Quante Jennings. Sam Phillips had two receiving touchdowns, both in the first half. New quarterback Carlos del Rio-Wilson had three total touchdowns; one on the ground, while connecting with Phillips and Collin Fletcher through the air.

On the defensive end, Brittan Walker had a 40-yard pick-six with 2:18 left in the second quarter. Case Adams had an interception at the end of the third period.

Hiram kept the game close early, but Cartersville’s quick-strike offense was too much to handle for the Hornets’ defense. Omar Grant and Jirah Douglas had two rushing touchdowns for the Hornets, while Dalton Moyse had two Hiram field goals. The Hornets had a fourth-quarter fumble recovery in the end zone for its final touchdown of the evening.

Cartersville will host Blessed Trinity next Friday night with a 7:30 kickoff. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:00 with all action being covered on WBHF.
