The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (1-0) might have shown some rust in its first game of the season, but it defeated the Allatoona Buccaneers (0-1) 35-14 Friday night.

Cartersville’s Rico Frye had three scores in the first half and one in the second. He had one rushing score of one-yard and two scores of four yards to go along with a 40-yard receiving touchdown. Trevor Lawrence let his backs to most of the early lifting but did throw one interception in the second quarter. He would regroup as the game went on, however.

He threw two touchdowns, one to the aforementioned Frye, and another to JaKobe Orr from 19-yards out to give Cartersville a 35-7 lead. Allatoona would put a late touchdown on the board, but the effort would fall short in the season’s opening week.

Cartersville’s next game will be next Saturday against Bartram Trail (FL), a game that will be televised on ESPN2 at 7:30 PM.
