The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes added to their undefeated season with a 45-2 win over the LaGrange Grangers on Friday night.

The game got off to an inauspicious start for Cartersville as LaGrange recovered an onside kick on the opening kickoff. The Cartersville defense held strong, however, and forced a Granger punt. But a few plays later, Tee Webb caught a tipped ball at the line and then threw it out of bounds in his own end zone for a safety. The Grangers had a 2-0 lead.

That lead would be short-lived as the Cartersville offense would go on to score 45 unanswered points and held a 31-2 lead at the half. Webb threw for over 200 yards in the first half, completing 67 percent of his passes for three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. In the game, Kyler Johnson eclipsed the 150-yard receiving mark and two touchdowns. Devonte Ross and Evan Slocum also had touchdown receptions.

Late in the fourth quarter, junior quarterback Stratton Tripp scored on an 11-yard rush to put the finishing touch on Cartersville’s 55th consecutive win in the regular season.

Next Friday, Cartersville will find itself in a big battle for the region as it hosts Sandy Creek at Weinman Stadium at 7:30. You can hear all of the action on WBHF.
