Chief Culpepper stated that a Cartersville police officer observed a scooter being operated in the area of Douglas Street and Martin Luther King Jr Dr.  As the officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the scooter stopped and the male suspect fled on foot. The scooter appeared to be new.  Officers checked “Castaways”, a business which sells scooters, located at 514 North Tennessee Street, and discovered the business had been burglarized.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, an officer saw three subjects with a scooter in the area of Douglas Street and Porter Street.  Further investigation led officers to place the three subjects under arrest.  The three men were:  Cornell Anthony Brown, Jr., age 20; Karlos Maurice Floyd, age 20; and, Kevin Dawayne Mitchell, age 19.  All three suspects resided at 308 Douglas Street in Cartersville.  All three have been charged with Burglary and at this time other charges are pending.

Three scooters were taken during the burglary, two of which have been recovered.

Chief Culpepper stated, “I am proud of the quick work of the officers in discovering the burglary and apprehending the suspects.  A simple traffic stop led to the discovery of a more complicated crime and the possible resolution of other similar incidents.”
