Chief Thomas N. Culpepper of the Cartersville Police Department announces that Officer Josh Downer will receive a Life Saving Medal in a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, August 14th at 8:00 a.m. at Police Headquarters.

On Friday, August 9, 2013, Officer Downer was off-duty when he came upon a serious accident on Highway 411 in White, Georgia.  One of the victims appeared to be unconscious and not breathing.  Officer Downer began performing CPR and did so until EMS arrived on the scene.  The victim was transported to the hospital and survived.  EMS responders stated that if Officer Downer had not administered CPR, the subject most likely would not have survived.

Officer Downer has been with the Cartersville Police Department since November of 2012 and graduated from the police academy in March of this year.

Chief Culpepper stated, “I am very proud of Officer Downer’s reaction to this unfortunate situation.  Although relatively new to law enforcement, Officer Downer’s training enabled him to take action without hesitation. “
