The full Executive Committee of the Georgia High School Association denied Cartersville High School’s appeal to change their region assignment for the next two years. The appeal was heard on Wednesday morning.

Cartersville desired to remain in a region that includes most of their region opponents from the last to years that includes  Gilmer, Heritage-Catoosa, Lafayette, Northwest Whitfield, Pickens, Ridgeland, and Southeast Whitfield.

The final ruling upholds the region that was recommended by the reclassification committee that includes Cedartown, Central-Carroll, Chapel Hill, LaGrange, Sandy Creek, and Troup. It will be  Region 5-AAAA.

Cartersville appeal was focused on the long travel distances to most of the schools in Region 5 that will require students to leave school earlier for athletic events along with the added bus and fuel expense.
