Mobile, Ala. (June 27, 2015) – On Friday, June 26, Sophia Inaba of Cartersville, Ga. received a scholastics award during the 58th Distinguished Young Women National Finals. The $1,000 cash scholarship was presented to four of the 50 state representatives who received the highest scores based on an evaluation of their high school academic record and standardized test scores.

Following a selection process that began in her home state of Georgia, Inaba traveled to Mobile, Ala. along with 49 other state representatives to participate in community activities and prepare for the 58th annual national competition.

Inaba is a graduate of Woodland High School. In the fall, she will attend the University of California, Los Angeles with plans to become a neuroscientist. She is the daughter of Fujiko and Mike Inaba.

Competition continues on Saturday, June 27 with the selection of the top ten finalists and the distribution of additional cash scholarships, including $50,000 to be awarded to the participant selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2015.
