The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (8-0, 4-0) beat Sandy Creek (4-3, 1-2) on Friday night by a score of 35-21.
The Canes were led by junior quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who threw three touchdown passes to different receivers and Trey Creamer, the recent Minnesota Golden Gopher commit, who added two touchdown runs in the victory.
Cartersville jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after Lawrence found TJ Turner from six yards out for the touchdown, but Sandy Creek answered right back and answered with a passing touchdown of its own to even up the score. Lawrence would then find Avery Showell for the next passing touchdown and an Evan Williams fumble recovery would turn into another Canes score as Lawrence found JaKobe Orr for another touchdown pass. Sandy Creek would add another touchdown before the half to cut the lead to 21-14.
Creamer and the Canes came out with the opening drive for a score and extend the lead to 28-14 in the third quarter and would add one more for good measure to give the Canes a 35-14 lead heading into the fourth.
Sandy Creek would add another score late in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late as the Canes would win and extend its current state-best winning streak to 23 games.
Cartersville will travel to Chapel Hill (2-3-1, 0-2) next Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:30.
