The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (9-0, 5-0) added to their undefeated resume with a 41-6 win over Chapel Hill on Friday night. The Purple Hurricanes also claimed the No. 1 seed out of Region 5-AAAA following Cedartown’s 15-8 victory over Troup County.

Cartersville fell behind 6-0 after the first nine minutes of regulation but went on to score 41 unanswered, including 28 points in the second half. Cartersville scored twice in the first half via a touchdown pass from Tee Webb to Devonte Ross and a rushing touchdown from Evan Slocum.

In the second half, Webb and Ross connected again for a 34-yard touchdown, while Harrison Allen added to rushing touchdowns, both from inside the 5-yard line. With just over five minutes left in regulation, Michael Abernathy scored on a 10-yard pass from Webb.

With Troup County’s second loss of the season, it was eliminated from the region crown. If Cartersville were to lose next week, it would own the tiebreaker against Sandy Creek following its head-to-head 52-42 win last week.

This is Cartersville’s 57th consecutive regular-season victory and its seventh-straight region championship.

Cartersville will take a bye week next week before playing its regular-season finale on November 8th against Troup County.
