Press Release

CARTERSVILLE – Due to the threat of inclement weather as forecasted on July 31, Cartersville Downtown Development Authority and August First Friday Sponsor Mellow Mushroom postponed the event to Friday, August 15. The “Summer of Love” activities planned for the First Friday of August, will be held from 5-9 PM on Friday, August 15, at Friendship Plaza in historic downtown Cartersville.
“The weather is always unpredictable in the summer, and with so many people to coordinate with for this particular event, it was deemed to be in everyone’s best interest to postpone until a later date,” said DDA Manager Tara Currier. “Tribute, A Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band is bringing the full, nine member band to perform, and we also have various downtown merchants setting up for the event. Due to the various coordination with all those involved, the decision was made the day prior to the First Friday event to allow time for rescheduling. We hope it may translate into an even larger crowd, as we now we have a little more time to spread the word about this event on August 15.”
This completely FREE event will start at 5 PM with a few kid’s activities including coloring fun and sidewalk chalk. Musical entertainment will be provided by Tribute, A Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band who will play from 7-9 PM. As stated on the band’s website, “Tribute seeks to recreate that unique period in American rock, when psychedelia ebbed and ABB informed us what jazz, rock, country and blues could sound like.”
There will also be vendors at this event, including delicious food from Louie’s Café and Mellow Mushroom, and frozen treats from Coconuts. Cartersville School of Ballet will be offering children’s activities, and Cartersville Florist will offer flowers to purchase – perfect addition for ladies to put in their hair. City Council approved the August 1 event as being a Community Festival, and pending their approval on the new date, the August 15 event will be a Community Festival allowing for the sale of adult beverages from 6-9 PM.
