Press Release from August 13, 2018, Cartersville School Board Meeting
The Cartersville School Board met in Regular Session.
The Board recognized Transportation Retiree, JoAnn Popham, for twelve years of faithful service as a bus driver. Mrs. Popham was presented an engraved clock from the Board by Mrs. Kelley Dial, President.

Under Business, the Board approved a Ratification for relocation and renovation of the CHS Football Scoreboard in the amount of $18,850.00 to be completed by Martin Signs, and waive Board Policy JCB.

Also approved under consent was a rental request from United Way of Bartow County to use the CMS School Grounds and parking lot Saturday, November 17, 2018 for the Turkey Trot Road Race; a ratification of a rental request from Crosspoint City Church to use the CES Parking Lot Sunday, July 29, August 5, 12 and 19, 2018 for parking; Dr. Feuerbach to attend the Charter System Foundation Conference and Luncheon on October 2 & 3, 2018 and the GSSA Fall Bootstrap October 16-18, 2018, both to be held in Athens, GA. The Board approved a resolution in support of implementing a JROTC Program at Cartersville High School. The following overnight / out-of-state trips were also approved – CES 5th Grade Challenge students to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, AL, November 7-9, 2018; CMS 8th grade Tour of Georgia April 29-May 4, 2019; CMS 7th grade Tour of Washington, D.C. May 5-10, 2019; CMS 7th & 8th grade Chorus to Pigeon Forge, TN to perform March 15-17, 2019. Several Surplus items were also approved.

The Board approved the Finance Committee’s recommendation to purchase 2 copiers (for CO and CPS) from Milner for a total price of $22,162.60, which is the same price for the new model from 10/31/2016. They will be paid from SPLOST summer projects. Also approved was the recommendation to purchase 2 regular 72 passenger buses and a special needs bus for $278,875.00 from Thomas Bus Sales. $231,660.00 will come from State Bond funds and the remaining $47,215.00 will come from SPLOST. These buses are on a state contract.
The Board approved the following recommendations from the Policy Committee: Clarification Changes in these policies: MK-Educational Accreditation Agency Relations, KEBA-Solicitations of Students, KJ-Advertising in Schools, IFBG-Acceptable Use of Technology. They also approved to set on the table for public review and comment, substantial changes on JCEB-Disciplinary Tribunal Hearing.
