Another Cartersville opponent was outmatched on Friday when the Canes (12-0) beat Burke County (9-3) on Friday night by a score of 35-7.

The Canes scored 35 first half points, four of which came from the arm of the junior phenom, Trevor Lawrence. Despite the 35 points, Cartersville went into the locker room feeling as if it left more on the field. It was certainly not Cartersville’s cleanest game, as the Canes had 10 penalties for 79 yards in the first half alone.

Those penalties would aide a Burke County touchdown drive in the third quarter, in which the Bears marched 64-yards on 15 plays to crack the scoreboard with 1:11 left in the third quarter.

The second half was more difficult for the Canes, as they were shutout from scoring, but the damage had already been done.

Lawrence threw for over 250 yards and four touchdowns in the contest. Avery Showell had two touchdown receptions on more than 100 receiving yards, while Trace Fezzia and E.J. Turner added one touchdown reception each. Antione Jefferson scored the only other Cartersville touchdown via the ground.

The Canes will next play Woodward Academy, the No. 1 seed out of Region 4 next Friday at 7:30.
