*Prior to the regular business session, our board members met in a called joint virtual meeting at 5:30 p.m. with the Bartow County Board of Education.  The meeting was required due to the primary election date change of May 19 to June 9.  The date change was needed on the resolution (joint resolution calling for a referendum to extend the 1% education local option sales tax) requesting the SPLOST extension item to be placed on the ballot.

Call to Order – Kelley Dial, President

Pledge of Allegiance

Character Word for the Month:  SELF-DISCIPLINE:  Demonstrating hard work.  Controlling your emotions, words, actions, impulses, and desires.  Giving your best in all situations.

Stellar Performers

The Matthew Hill-Dean HEARTS Employee of the Month for April (Paraprofessional/Media Clerk category) is Ms. Yvette Williams, who serves as a paraprofessional at Cartersville Middle School. Ms. Williams is a respected presence in the classroom. She supports students with their classwork and behavior when they are present and takes it upon herself to keep them up with notes when they are absent. She does not have to be told what is needed; she instinctively knows. Yvette sees children who need a friend and makes sure she lets them know they are loved and important. She treats her coworkers the same way. She encourages and genuinely cares for each student in the classroom. One nominator said, “Every day, Mrs. Williams walks in my classroom excited to learn math, and the students feel that excitement and follow”.

New Frontier of Bartow County, Inc. proudly sponsors the Hill-Dean HEARTS Employee of the Month Award and Yvette will receive a $50 gift card to Appalachian Grill, along with her name added to the perpetual plaque displayed at the Cartersville School Board Office.
