PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING A PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Bartow County Board of Education today announces its intention to increase the property taxes it will levy this year by 13.21 percent over the rollback millage rate. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 19.40 mills, an increase of 2.263 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 17.137 mills.  The current millage rate for Bartow County Schools is 17.90 mills and the proposed increase to 19.40 mills will be an 1.5 mill increase when compared to last year’s levy.  This increase is a result of the district’s reduced funding from both State and Local sources since 2009 along with the increase of mandated state cost.   All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the Central Office, 65 Gilreath Road, Cartersville, GA on July 22, 2014 at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. An additional public hearing on this tax increase is at the Central Office, 65 Gilreath Road, Cartersville, GA on July 30, 2014 at 5:00 pm.
