The crash occurred around 3:25 this morning as traffic was slowed on I-75 near mile marker 281 for another crash ahead. A northbound McKee Foods Transportation tractor trailer carrying food boxes struck the rear-end of a Honda Accord in the center lane, pushing that vehicle into a UPS tractor trailer in the right lane. The McKee tractor trailer with the boxes continued in the center lane and hit a Wheaton Van Lines moving and storage tractor trailer in the rear before overturning onto the interstate.
There were 9 people injured. The most serious of the injured was the driver of the Honda Accord, Alvin Kenneth Hammonds, 53, from Rex. He was airlifted to Grady and his passenger, Stephen Patrick Waldon, 32, from Rex, was taken to Kennestone for treatment. The other seven people were taken to Cartersville Medical for treatment. The driver of the McKee truck, James William Gregory, 45, from McDonald, TN was charged with following too closely.
All lanes are now open.
