Press Release
Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor has proposed a tax reduction for tax year 2015. With the overall tax digest showing a preliminary increase of 5.7%, the County has proposed reducing the millage for the unincorporated areas from 9.68 to 9.01 and the millage in incorporated areas from 10.97 to 10.30.
Commissioner Taylor commented “The economy in Bartow County is showing definite improvement, and the County’s budget has improved over the last two years to the point where we can afford to approve a tax reduction.”
County Administrator Peter Olson remarked “The County’s overall fiscal position has strengthened considerably over the last two years, due to a combination of improving revenues and conservative budget expenditures. We are still working to catch up from the difficulties caused by the extended recession. Sales tax revenues have still not recovered to the levels of even 2010. We continue to maintain a conservative budget posture.”
The final decision on the millage rate will be made at the Commissioner’s specially called meeting on Friday, July 24, at 10:00 a.m.
