With a new school year just days away, The Georgia Department of Revenue announces that the “back to school” sales tax holiday will be August 1-2, 2014.

 

“The 2014 sales tax holiday represents an excellent opportunity for parents and students to save money on basic necessities when getting ready for the upcoming school year in Georgia, “  said Department of Revenue Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie.”

 

Clothing and footwear are tax exempt, as long as the cost is $100 or less per item.  The sales tax exemption applies to vintage or antique clothing as well as new clothing.  Computers, computer parts and accessories, and software purchased for non –commercial use are also exempt, as long as the cost is $1,000 or less per item.
