On Sunday night, Adairsville officers were called to the Ramada Inn on Georgia North Circle regarding a woman who had been kidnapped and raped. Officers arrived on the scene and encountered the visibly traumatized victim and the suspect, Chancey Earl Droney, 43, of Canton.
The victim informed investigators the Droney had abducted her in Cherokee County, bound her with duct tape, and transported her to Adairsville. The victim was transported to a local sexual assault center for treatment.
Droney had suffered from self-inflicted knife wounds. Officers attended to Droney’s wounds and accompanied him to Gordon Hospital, where he was later taken into custody and transported to the Bartow County Jail.
Droney was charged with rape, aggravated battery, aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated sexual battery, battery, sexual battery, false imprisonment, criminal trespass, terroristic threats and acts, and kidnapping with injury.
