The accident occurred Friday before 10 p.m. A white Chevy Cobalt was traveling westbound on Highway 140. The vehicle traveled from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane before exiting the roadway on the south shoulder. The vehicle traveled down the embankment striking several small trees. The vehicle continued to travel down the embankment before striking a large standing tree. After impact with the large tree, the vehicle came to a final rest. The driver, a 71-year-old male was was fatally injured.
The driver’s name will be released once we confirm that the next of kin has been identified.
