According to a press release from APD:
On Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at approximately 10:27 a.m. officers with the Adairsville Police Department along with Bartow County Fire Department personnel responded to 105 Sparks St. in reference to a structure fire. The 911 caller stated this was a vacant mobile home which was boarded up and that someone was inside the residence and appeared to be throwing objects out of a window. Upon arriving at the scene officers observed smoke coming from this location. As members of the Fire Department were extinguishing the fire, officers with the Adairsville Police Department were interviewing witnesses to gather information as to the cause of the fire. Officers also spoke with a male subject by the name of Stephen Howell, 29, of 470 Old Hwy 41, Adairsville, Georgia who witnesses stated was the subject inside the residence. While speaking with Howell officers observed soot on Howell’s face and smelled the odor of smoke coming from his person. Detectives arrived on scene and asked Mr. Howell if he would come to the police department for further questioning. Howell agreed.
Upon arrival at the police department detectives interviewed Mr. Howell and also met with Bartow County Arson Investigator. After interviewing Mr. Howell he was subsequently arrested and charged with Burglary and Arson 1st Degree. Mr. Howell is currently being held in the Bartow County Jail.
