Thirty three year old Brian Howard Cox of White, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene after the car in which he was traveling collided with a tractor-trailer at about 10:30 p.m. in greater Bluffton, according to Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen. The tractor-trailer was heading east on U.S. 278 when it made a U-turn near the Kroger’s on Towne Drive, striking another vehicle in the westbound lane, according to the Bluffton Police Department, which is investigating the accident. After the accident, both lanes of U.S. 278 were closed for a helicopter landing. The driver in the accident was flown by LifeStar Air Ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
