PRESS RELEASE

The Bartow County Commissioner has proposed no change to the millage rates for 2016. The proposed millage rate for incorporated areas remains 10.30 and for unincorporated areas remains 9.01, the same rates as set in 2015. State law requires this to be advertised as a tax increase since the state measures change not against the actual prior-year millage rate, but rather against the “rollback rate.” The rollback rate is calculated by subtracting any increase in the digest due to reassessment. However, if your own assessment did not change, your taxes will be the same as last year.
All concerned citizens are invited to attend the public hearings on this tax increase to be held in the Commissioner’s Public Meeting/Conference Room, located at 135 W. Cherokee Avenue, Cartersville, Georgia 30120 on July 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and on August 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
