Sarah Baynard tossed a five-inning no-hitter as the Woodland Lady Cats blanked East Paulding Tuesday night at home, 8-0.

Baynard issued only one walk, hit one batter, and struck out two, while only tossing 67 pitches in the contest.

Woodland scored three runs in the first inning, added two more in the second, another run in the third, and two more in the fourth inning. Caroline Higdon tripled and drove in two runs for the Lady Cats.

Woodland is now 10-13 on the season and 5-8 in region play.

The Cass softball team stood toe-to-toe with Carrollton Tuesday night for seven innings, but the Lady Trojans took advantage of three Cass errors and had seven hits in the top of the eighth on their way to a 9-0 win at the Lady Colonels’ home field.

Cass pitcher Taylor Gibson scattered three hits and struck out three through seven shutout innings.

Cass is now 5-21 on the season and 1-13 in region play.

 

 

Cass volleyball split a pair of Region 7-AAAAA matches Tuesday evening at Woodland.

The Lady Colonels defeated the host Lady Cats 25-15, 25-16, but lost a close match to Villa Rica 25-20, 26-24.

Cass (18-13, 2-4) plays at Adairsville Thursday in a non-region match and will also face Gordon Central.

In its second match, Woodland defeated Rome 28-26, 25-21 for a region victory.
