The Cartersville boys basketball team beat Central Carroll over the weekend by a score of 77-40 to move to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in region play. Jaylon Pugh finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while T.J. Horton added 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

The Cass High girls basketball team defeated Armuhcee Saturday by a score of 53-42 to improve to 15-4 on the season and 8-3 in region play.  it was a very special game for Cass senior point guard Jana Morning, who eclipsed the 1,000-point mark with her 22-point performance. Morning needed 18 points entering the game to reach 1,000. In addition to Morning’s 22 points, Esmeralda Thomas scored 16 and Chanel Clemmons scored eight.

The Cass boys team beat Armuchee by a score of 51-41 on Saturday to move to 14-6 on the season. Cass then outscored Armuchee 12-7 in the second quarter to open up a 30-13 halftime lead. Regular starters Jake Collum and Jacquez Milles each scored all four of their points for the game in the second quarter. Carter Hedden then filled up the scorebook in the second half to help Cass keep its advantage and scored a team-high 10 points, all in the second half.

The Excel girls basketball team beat North Cobb Christian on Saturday by a score of 37-25 to move to 10-4 on the season and 6-2 in region play. Excel got behind early, struggling for points in a 9-6 first quarter. With the Lady Eagles not having their best game offensively, they ratcheted up the defense and held North Cobb Christian to just seven points in the second quarter and just two points in the third.

The Adairsville High girls basketball team defeated Georgia School for the Deaf 62-42 to move to 7-13 on the season, snapping a six-game losing streak. The offensive outburst in the opening minutes gave Adairsville a 23-7 lead after the first quarter. Adairsville slowed down some for the remaining three quarters, but was able to maintain a comfortable 37-16 lead at halftime thanks to six more points from Summerville in the second period. Josie Summerville scored six points in each of the first three quarters and finished with 22.

The Cartersville Lady Canes fell to Central Carroll by a score of 54-42 over the weekend to drop to 7-11 on the season and 1-5 in region play. The Lady Canes had 17 turnovers in the first half and trailed 25-17 entering the third quarter, which quickly ended all hopes for a comeback, as the Lady Canes were outscored 11-3.

The Woodland boys basketball team dropped to 1-14 after its third overtime loss in four games, falling to Southeast Whitfield 60-59. Woodland missed 17 free throws in the contest. Justice Carter, Hunter Johnson and Jaylen Ballard, the team’s three highest scorers in the game, all fouled out. Justice Hayes left the game early in the third quarter with an injury. Carter finished with 15 points, Johnson 12 and Ballard 10.

The Woodland girls basketball team fell to Southeast Whitfield by a score of 42-26 to fall to 0-16 on the season and 0-10 in region play. Lexie Robinson scored nine for the Wildcats, while Carli Clymer added six.

The Excel Christian Academy boys basketball team fell to North Cobb Christian 75-15 to drop to 0-13 on the season and 0-8 in region play.

The Woodland boys basketball team dropped to 1-14 after its third overtime loss in four games, falling to Southeast Whitfield 60-59. Woodland missed 17 free throws in the contest. The  No. 3 Georgia Highlands College Chargers improved to 19-0 on the season and 6-0 in conference play with a 101-70 win over conference opponent East Georgia College. The Bobcats of East Georgia keep the game within reach in the first half with GHC leading only by 6, 44 – 38 at the break. The second half was all GHC with the Chargers pushing the lead to 25 points with 6:00 minutes remaining  and pulling away for the 31 point win. Kyvon Davenport had an outstanding night with 23 points and 15 rebounds, Ty Cockfield had 22 points.

Behind Sydney Garnigan’s two big shots down the stretch and Taylor Farley huge 3-poin shot in overtime the Lady Chargers survive on the road to defeat East Georgia State 51-47.  The Lady Chargers had three players in double digits, with Pam Diokpara with 12 points, Sydney Garnigan with 11 points, and Taylor Farley with 10. Georgia Highlands is now 9-12 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
