In local sports, despite graduating 26 players in the past two seasons, the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes baseball team is ranked 26th in the nation, according to Sporting News. The Canes will play a scrimmage tonight against Cherokee at 5:30.

Basketball region tournaments are underway and several teams from Bartow County played last night, with playoff berths on the line. The Adairsville Lady Tigers beat North Murray by a score of 46-41 and advance to the region semi-finals and clinched a playoff berth. The Lady Canes were not as fortunate, as they fell to Heritage-Catoosa by a score of 61-39, and were eliminated from their region tournament and the playoffs. The Lady Canes end their season 6-20 overall. The Adairsville boys team was also eliminated last night from the region tournament and the AAA playoffs, as they fell to Ringgold.

Yesterday, the Georgia Highlands College baseball team ended its perfect start to the season, as it split a doubleheader with Chattanooga State. They lost the first game 4-1, but won the second game 3-2. They are now 5-1 on the season.

Today in sports, high school baseball is underway in Bartow County as three local schools are set to play scrimmages at 5:30 this evening. Adairsville will travel to Woodland and Cartersville will host Cherokee. The Georgia Highlands Chargers look to continue their winning ways this evening, as they play at 6:00.

Today in soccer, Woodland will travel to East Paulding at 5:30 and Cass will host Southeast Whitfield at 6:30.

Region tournaments continue for Bartow County teams in basketball today, as the Adairsville Lady Tigers will play Ringgold, a team that is undefeated in region play, in the semi-finals at 7:00 and the Cartersville boys team will play PickensĀ at 8:30.

Tomorrow on the sports slate, the Chargers baseball team will continue their series against Walter State at 1:00. Should the Cartersville boys team and Adairsville girls team win this evening, they would play in their region championships tomorrow, as well.
