Several Cartersville Purple Hurricane football players signed their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday morning. One was defensive-end and linebacker Jacorey Johns, who will be taking his talents to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to play for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

“It’s a very good school to get a very good education,” Johns told WBHF when asked about his decision to play at Wake Forest. “They’re doing a really good job with the football program. It’s going to be really good in the future.”

Wake Forest finished the regular season with a 7-5 record, which included a 4-4 mark in the ACC.

Johns was asked about how he felt about signing his NLI:

“It’s pretty good. I just know I’ve been working hard my whole life to push toward this dream. My family is proud and I get a free education to go play football, so it’s pretty good.

Wake Forest coach Dave Cohen stated that he is “Fired up to get a special combo (defensive) end and linebacker. (Johns) does it all.”

Johns played under Coach Joey King all four years at Cartersville High School and credited him with a lot of his success on and off the field.

“(King) really has made me who I am. He has really made me a better person, a football player, and a student, too.

Wake Forest will play Texas A&M in the Belk Bowl on Friday, December 29th at 1:00 PM on ESPN.
