Press release from GBI

Adairsville, GA – At 12:40 this morning an Adairsville Police Officer stopped a suspicious vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, the officer checked the license of the driver.  The driver, Charles Leon Johnson, II, 29, was wanted on a simple battery charge.  As the officer tried to place Johnson under arrest, Johnson attempted to flee dragging the officer along the road.  The officer fired once at Johnson, killing him.  The incident occurred on Highway 140 at the northbound entrance to Interstate 75. The officer has received medical attention but his injuries did not require him to be hospitalized.

 

Adairsville Police Interim Chief Arnold Gillman requested the GBI investigate the incident.  When the investigation is completed it will be turned over to the district attorney for review.
