According to Bartow County EMS public information officer Brad Cothran, a 3-year-old child drowned at a private swimming pool Saturday afternoon.
Bartow County EMS, the Cartersville Fire Department, and the Cartersville Police Department responded to Waterford Drive around 12:48 Saturday afternoon to a 3-yar-old child found in a private swimming pool. Upon arrival to the scene, EMS found the child unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing. CPR was initiated by family and once on the scene, first responders continued CPR. The patient was quickly moved to the ambulance without CPR being interrupted. Once in the ambulance, paramedics began advanced life support measures. A member of the Cartersville Fire Department drove the ambulance to Cartersville Medical Center so that both paramedics could continue treatment and resuscitation efforts while en route. Upon arrival to the hospital, efforts were continued by the emergency room staff and the emergency room doctor. The child did not respond to any treatment methods performed and was pronounced dead.
