On Sunday, December 31, 2017, at approximately 0230 Cartersville Police Department (CPD) patrol officers responded to a shots fired call in the vicinity of 2 Cain Drive, Cartersville, Georgia. Upon arrival, officers detected the odor of marijuana, and observed subjects fleeing the premises. Patrol officers secured the scene while they conducted an initial investigation of the reported shots fired.

Responding officers observed marijuana in plain view and initially recovered a semi-automatic handgun.  CPD responding officers notified  the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force (DTF) to assist in the investigation, due to the number of people inside the residence, the locating of a firearm and the evidence of wide spread drug usage.  Responding officers encountered in excess of 60 individuals inside the residence, including four minors.

This investigation and evidence were turned over at that time to the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force for further action involving this case.

It has been a long-standing policy of the Cartersville Police Department that drug investigations routine patrol officers encounter are referred to the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force.

This current policy is now under review for any further drug investigations.
