FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 04/18/2018

On April 18, 2018 at approximately 2:05 a.m. officers with the Adairsville Police Department stopped a suspicious vehicle for a busted windshield after the vehicle was observed parked at 2 different businesses in Adairsville.  The officers observed the vehicle parked at the gas pump at Patty’s Truck Stop on Hwy 140 in Adairsville for approximately an hour while conducting business checks.  A short time later the officers observed the vehicle parked at the QT.  As the officers were leaving from behind the QT after checking the truck parking lot the suspicious vehicle pulled out of the QT and onto Hwy 140.  Having probable cause to stop the vehicle the officers performed a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The vehicle pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot and stopped.  Officers approached the driver, identified as Adam Hall, 39, of 219 Victory Drive in Calhoun and explained why he was being stopped.  After running a GCIC check on Hall, the officers were notified that Hall was wanted for Parole Violation.  Officers placed Hall under arrest for the active warrant.

Upon speaking with the front seat passenger, Shannia Lau, 36, of 2211 Cash Road in Calhoun, who was the owner of the vehicle, the officers asked for consent to search the vehicle.  Lau refused consent to search.  The officers then contacted Calhoun P.D. to ask for assistance with the help of a K-9.  The Calhoun P.D. K-9 arrived on scene a short time later and after performing a free-air sniff of the vehicle the K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.  The officers then conducted a search of the vehicle and located a camouflage backpack in the rear seat within arms reach of Hall and Lau.  Upon searching the backpack, the officers located over 2 & 1/2 pounds of Methamphetamine in various plastic containers and plastic bags, over 4 ounces of Marijuana, several hundred Schedule I, II, III & IV pills, several digital scales, glass smoking pipes and over $8,000.00 in cash.  Lau was subsequently placed under arrest.  Both Hall and Lau were transported to the Bartow County Jail without incident.

Hall was charged with traffic offenses for Starburst Windshield and Expired Driver’s License.  Both Hall and Lau are charged with V.G.C.S.A. Trafficking Methamphetamine, V.G.C.S.A. Possession With Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Methamphetamine, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Marijuana More Than One Ounce, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Marijuana With Intent To Distribute, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance,

V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance, and V.G.C.S.A. Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance.

This is one of the largest Methamphetamine seizures in Adairsville history.  We would like to extend our appreciation to Calhoun P.D. for assisting us with the help of their K-9 officer.  It is always beneficial when agencies have a good working relationship that can help each other in getting drugs off of our streets and out of our community.
