On Monday, The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office released its report on the shooting that occurred at The Oaks Apartments on Valley View Drive just after one o’clock last Wednesday morning.

The initial caller told dispatch that around 12 gunshots were heard in the parking lot and that there were several subjects screaming and standing near apartment 12.

Deputies located 18-year-old Jacquez Jolly of Rome near the entrance of the complex behind apartment 35 with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Deputies gave Jolly medical aid before Bartow County EMS and Fire arrived to help.

Before he was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital, Jolly told deputies that the suspect was an unknown black male but could not provide any type of description. Jolly said he was just visiting this location and does not know why this happened. Jolly is expected to fully recover from his wounds.

Investigators found multiple shell casings in front of apartment 12 in the parking lot as well as a blood trail leading towards a breezeway near apartment 25, where more shell casings were found as well as another blood trail. Several teeth were also found in the parking lot.

A witness said he heard several gunshots, looked outside his apartment, and saw a black male run across the parking lot, in and out of another apartment, and got into a white or tan Toyota passenger car. When exiting the apartment complex, he flashed his lights at a blue or black Chevy Tahoe. The Tahoe then flashed its lights and both vehicles fled the complex.

A silver Jeep Liberty was hit by a gunshot to its rear liftgate during the whole incident. No one else besides Jolly is known to have been injured. No arrest has been made at this time.
